   Expectations and Grading

  1.  Daily Expectations:  (45%) Come to class on time.  There will be 3 points given per day in each of the following areas:

  1. AttendanceCome to class on time.  If you are not on time or prepared you will receive a “0”.
  2. Participation:  If you do not do your work or participate in the class or in the shop you will receive a “0”.
  3. Attitude:  If you have a negative attitude, are disrespectful, do not follow the rules, etc. you will receive a “0”.

You can receive a maximum of 15 points per week.  These points will be figured into your grade for the quarter.  If you do not earn enough points it could drastically reduce your grade.  If you consistently do not earn points your parent(s) or guardian will be contacted.

  1. Assignments and Homework:  (10%)  All assignments and homework are due on the day/date given.  If you do not turn in your homework you will be given a “0” for it.  Homework will be figured into your grade for the quarter.
  1. Books:  Any book a student receives is their responsibility.  If the book is lost, stolen, or destroyed in any way, the student will have to pay for purchasing a new book.  All books must be covered.  The teacher may check books at anytime.
  1. Notes / Journal:  You will be expected to take notes during class lessons.  You must bring a notebook to class every day.  Even if we are working in the shop you should have your notebook to write down any information you need.  You should use your notes to study for tests. The journal will be collected and graded mid quarter and at the end of the quarter. The journal will be equal to a test grade.
  1. Quizzes: (15%)  Quizzes are given half the weight of tests and cannot be taken over.
  1.  Tests:  (30%)  Tests will be given periodically to assess whether the material covered has been learned.  These will include written and hands on tests.  It is the student’s responsibility to request when a test can be made up.  Failure to make arrangements with the teacher will result in incomplete and then a zero. Major projects that are handed in late will lose one letter grade for each day it is late.
    1. Written Tests:  If a student fails a written test they will not be able to take it over except for the Safety Test.
    1. Safety Tests:  Safety tests will be given to all students before they will be allowed to work in the shop.  All students who work in the shop must pass the competency based safety test with at least an 80%.  If they do not pass the test with at least 80% they will have to retake it until they do pass with at least 80%.  Safety tests may be reissued throughout the school year.
    1. Hands on Tests:  If a student fails on a hands on test they will be required to take it over and demonstrate they can perform the task.  The most they will be able to get on the make up will be a 70% for the first time and 60% for the second time.  If they do not pass the test after 3rd time they will receive a failing grade for the test but will be required to perform the task satisfactorily before they are allowed to do any work in that area.  Students must master competency asked to demonstrate in sequential order before working on next competency.
  1. Grading:  At the end of each quarter students will receive their grades.  The grades will be broken down as follows:
