To me teaching is a method of transferring and gaining knowledge. A well rounded teacher takes previous knowledge and builds upon it. In my opinion as an educator it is my duty to give students information and make it connect with the every day realities of their life's In using this approach not only am I instilling knowledge but, I am also answering the everlasting question that all students are thinking "why do I need to know this stuff".
A teacher should be well rounded with information. This will allow the teacher to connect material that the student does not understand and parallel it to something he or she does understand. A proficient teacher will allow students to explore and experiment while guiding students along the path to success.
A teacher also should be a person who has the ability to take complex information and simplify it for each of their students by connecting it with their (the student's) own personal interest.
So to me, a teacher is a person that has to be caring and open minded enough to
allow expansion of our children's minds but, closed enough in order to guide
them to success at the same time instilling respect and high values.
